The EKX series was presented at NAMM 2015 as the most current addition to Electro Voice's portable speaker assortment. The EKX-15 is a two-way passive full-range speaker that combines legendary EV audio quality with the reliability of the newest audio technology.

All of that comes together in one compact housing to make this speaker suited for a wide range of applications, from DJing, to amplifying live bands, to use in fixed installations. The EKX series is a reliable middle child - older than the ZLX and ELX series and younger than the ETX series.

Overview

The EKX-15 is equipped with sensitivity transducers designed by EV themselves, which feature EV's patented waveguide design and produce a maximum SPL of 132 dB. You'll find that the exterior of the speaker features a matte black finish and a rugged steel grille for protecting the speaker components and ventilation. In order to provide optimal coverage, the EKX-15 has a 90 x 60-degree dispersion pattern and it can be placed at a 40-degree angle for monitoring. Metal handles are featured on both sides of the speaker to make transport and installation a breeze.

Weighing in at only slightly more than 50 lbs, this speaker is relatively lightweight, considering its impressive specs. As such, it can also be used as a satellite speaker via the stand flange on the bottom. There are also four rubber feet on the bottom should you wish to place it on the floor.
