General

The EKX-18S is the largest passive 18-inch subwoofer in Electro Voice's EKX series. Electro Voice designs and produces high-quality professional audio devices that have been used on tour by bands such as the Foo Fighters, Metallica, and AC/DC. The EKX line is positioned above the ZLX and ELX lines and under the ETX line, and it consists of portable audio solutions that combine the latest audio technology with the reliability and quality that we've become used to with Electro Voice.

Design

The EKX-18S is an excellent choice if you're looking to provide audio for clubs, live bands, DJs and theatres. Only high-quality materials were used to fashion the components, and the 50mm plywood housing is robust enough to keep it all optimally protected. You'll find two sunken handles on the sides, and the front of the sub features a rugged metal grille that's reinforced with two metal rods. It also features a pole mount for mounting satellite speakers.

Sound

Thanks to EV's very own high-sensitivity transducers, this sub boasts a peak power of 1,600 watts and a 134dB SPL. It also offers low distortion and exceptional bass reproduction. With their EKX series, EV has proven once again that they are still at the forefront of innovation and quality control!

Super geluid, behoorlijk groot May 23, 2020

Ik heb al zowel deze 18 inch versie, als de 15 inch versie gebruikt. Wanneer je in grote zalen speelt en nummers/genres met veel bas (rap, hiphop…) speelt, dan is dit de subwoofer die je wil hebben. Door zijn grotere formaat kan hij de lage tonen zeer zuiver weergeven, ook bij hoge volumes. Bij de kleinere versies, kan dit bij sommige nummers met veel bas een beetje vervormt klinken. Afhankelijk van welk muziekgenre je het vaakst speelt moet je dus de keuze maken. Aangezien ik regelmatig muziek met veel bas speel, was voor mij de upgrade het zeker waard. Enige nadeel hierbij is dat de subwoofer dan wel behoorlijk groot en zwaar wordt, wat het soms wat moeilijker maakt om hem te vervoeren. Maar de geluidskwaliteit is het meer dan waard.

Het is een fijne woofer, maar door de stevige behuizing voor mij veel te zwaar... Ik wil hem. Namelijk vaak meenemen in de bakfiets naar een feest. Het geluid van de woofer is echter subliem. Ik raad hem zeker aan voor ook beginnende dj's omdat er gewoon een zuivere basstoon uitkomt die je kunt verwachten op een groot feest. De prijs kwaliteit verhouding is een beetje wat mij tegenvalt want de prijs is echt te veel voor het geluid wat er uitkomt. Echter voor een thuis studio is deze woofer echt wel aan te raden. Het is simpeweg een goeie woofer om als beginnende dj (wat ik ook ben) te gebruiken om te wennen aan hoe hard het geluid is op veel feesten. Want het volume van deze kast doet je buren denken alsof er een aardbeving aan de gang is. Al met al een goeie all round woofer die dus niet heel erg mobiel is. Maar dat is voor een beginner waarschijnlijk niet nodig omdat zij eerst in hun eigen studio gaan oefenen. Maar wat ik al zei net iets te duur.

Net zoals het kleine broertje een fantastische sub met nog betere en zuivere lage tonen. Dit zorgt voor nog meer sensatie en bass. Natuurlijk is hij wel wat zwaarder wat wel een minpunt is, alleen door het robuuste design wordt dit wel een beetje weggenomen. Wel vind ik het jammer dat de prijs best hoog is. Dit mag wel dankzij wat er uit komt, je voelt de bass en dat is iets wat fantastisch is. Kortom een prima speaker met wat minpunten maar die worden wel erg goed weggezet dankzij de kwaliteit. Kwaliteit voor je geld ondanks dat hij duur is, is het zeker een aanrader.
