A few pencil microphones always come in handy! Whether you are close-miking a snare drum or tom, applying overhead for drums, choirs or instrument groups: a small-diaphragm condenser microphone is extremely practical. AKG know this and offer this Perception P170: a general-purpose instrumental microphone from the Project Studio series. It has everything on board that you need to create clear recordings of multiple instruments. This light microphone also has an excellent transient response. You can see it as an affordable, worthy alternative to the AKG C451 B!
AKG P170: construction and applications
The Perception P170 is a small-diaphragm condenser microphone. It is equipped with a cardioid capsule, aimed at frontal sound sources, whereby the sound from the sides and rear is ignored. Great for care-free use in all kinds of setups. A/B or X/Y or for the highlighting of separate instruments or parts, this is an excellent choice. For attuning to the sound level of the source, there is a -20 dB signal attenuation. When you switch this on, a maximum SPL of 155 dB is made possible, without distortion!
Durable make
Just like its siblings from the Project Studio Line, this P170 is also made with a metal housing. This helps to prevent electromagnetic interference and it also increases the durability, even with intensive (on-stage) use. The practical pencil microphone is delivered including a stand adapter, so that you can get started right away. We advise you to order these microphones in pairs, to enjoy ideal overhead performances.
