General

Full traps are particularly interesting and highly effective in compact spaces. Especially when they have doors and windows near corners. You then simply place the panels in the corners next to these obstacles so that maximum attenuation is obtained. They can also enhance the absorption capacity when extra damping is required to effectively control very low bass. Primacoustic's full traps can absorb low frequencies up to 50 Hz and control the mid and high tones so that they are preserved but never in the way.

Functioning of the FullTrap

Due to an ingenious shape and material called suspended diaphragm, this FullTrap is excellent at effectively absorbing excess low frequencies. In fact, the diaphragm found along the entire length of the FullTrap causes these frequencies to naturally migrate with it to more acceptable values. In practice, this means that you will get rid of the woolly, overpowering low frequencies, making the acoustics much drier. This in turn means you can be more focused and the sound image will be more neutral.

Construction

In fact, this FullTrap is a combination of a so-called 'broadband absorber' and a bass trap. This means that the panel, which by the way is made of MDF, is specially designed to cope with problematic low frequencies. Three acoustic principles are used for this purpose. To control the midrange and high frequencies, a more than 7.5 cm thick absorption panel made of glass wool is used. Behind the acoustic panel is a special membrane that absorbs frequencies below 75 Hz. Behind this panel is an empty cavity, created by the wooden enclosure, which further attenuates the problematic 100 Hz frequencies.

Primacoustic FullTrap Wall Mount (grey)

I already had one MaxTrap in the only available corner of my bedroom studio and was impressed with the results so I added a FullTrap on the flat wall behind the monitors and tested/retested. Once again the effects were noticeable and measurable - a further general reduction in decay above 1 kHz, individual resonances shortened between 200Hz and 800Hz and a general thinning out and decrease of energy below that. These panels look good and do their job well.
