Neumann KH 420 active three-way studio monitor

Neumann have provided another heir for a product that previously carried the name Klein + Hummel! This active KH 420 studio monitor allows for high-quality audio reproductions, with a 10-inch woofer for bass frequencies, a 3-inch driver for the mids and a 1-inch tweeter for trebles. The mid-driver and tweeter are mounted in a closed baffle with a wave guide, which ensures excellent dispersion and a large sweet spot. You can accurately fine-tune the sound of this monitor to the acoustic properties of the venue in which you're working. The KH 420 is designed for midfield and main monitoring applications, and can be used in music, broadcasting and post-production studios, during recording, mixing and mastering.

Wave guide with Mathematically Modeled Dispersion

This is quite a mouthful, but can more easily be described - thanks to the way in which the surface of the monitor is designed (and the way in which the mid driver and tweeter are mounted), the sound is dispersed at an angle of 80 x 60 degrees (horizontal x vertical), ensuring a large sweet spot, which in turn allows for more mobility behind your mixer. Moreover, the frequency response remains stable over the entire width, so that an accurate sound image and spacious stereo images are provided. A relatively narrow vertical dispersion minimises reflections via the ceiling and mixer, ensuring a reliable audio reproduction. As the baffle can be tilted by 90 degrees, you can also position this monitor on the floor.

Power and connectors

This Neumann KH 420 features three independent amplifiers for the low, middle and high frequencies. These amps produce 330 watts for the bass frequencies, 140 watts for the middle frequencies, and 140 watts for the trebles. Thanks to its high power handling, this monitor has a maximum SPL of 122.4 dB. Connecting this active studio monitor to a mixer or audio interface can be done via a balanced XLR connector. Furthermore, it features eight M5 mounting points at the rear, with which you can attach mounting hardware that lets you suspend or mount the unit.
