General
Not many synths were as popular in the '80s as the Roland Junos; specifically, the Juno-106. They were affordable and easy to operate, and despite the fact that Junos had pretty basic functionality, they sounded great. Many Junos were produced and used as work horses in studios and on stage. The great strength of the Juno was that anyone could use it! With the JU-06 Boutique synthesizer module, Roland brings back that glory and class, this time in a very compact housing and boasting cutting-edge technology.
Characteristics of the Roland JU-06 Boutique
In its core, the JU-06 features a single oscillator with sawtooth or block wave, adjustable pulse width and octave, as well as LFO depth, a sub-oscillator and a noise oscillator. There is one ADSR envelope, which also functions as a low-pass and loudness filter (adjustable), and has resonance, adjustable polarity, envelope thickness, keyboard tracking and LFO depth as well. When using pads, for example, you can choose from two chorus effects, including that specific chorus that made Juno famous!
Performance
You get 64 patches to work with (8 x 8), although the real synth specialists will want to create their own sounds, of course. Creating sounds is as easy as pie, a logical result of this compact synthesis model. Adjust the pitch and modulation by using the two ribbon strips on the left side. The JU-06 is a module, so it's worth considering the corresponding (optional) K25m, a small 25-key weighted mini keyboard on which you can mount the JU-06 (and the other Boutique modules).
