A synthesiser with no menus, no display, and no endless fiddling with hundreds of parameters. With the SOMA Terra, it’s all about direct, hands-on expression. The keyboard consists of twelve brass hemispheres that respond to the way you touch them. You shape touch, timbre and glissando directly with your fingers. Under the bonnet lies a microtonal system that allows you to tune each note to an accuracy of 0.8 cents.

One device, thirty-two instruments

The TERRA features 32 synthesis algorithms, each of which is a complete instrument in its own right, ready to play without the need for any programming. From polyphonic, acoustic-inspired sounds to raw experimental textures, fat basses and solo voices: simply choose an algorithm and play. The built-in motion sensor translates every movement of your hands and body into modulation, so even a slight tilt or tremor instantly colours your sound. Four additional sensors let you influence the timbre whilst playing, all at your fingertips. The instrument feels so much like a real ‘living’ instrument and breaks away from the consistent output you’re used to with a traditional synthesiser.

Premium sound and build quality

Once you touch the keys, the sound is generated by an analogue circuit featuring a Burr-Brown converter and Class A germanium transistors, which give the TERRA its warm, rich and detailed tone. You also get a built-in echo and reverb, as well as a stereo output and 96 presets, making it completely ready to play! The lightweight, solid wood cabinet with brass and steel ensures that every unit feels very solid and premium, with the added bonus that each one is slightly different. In short: an instrument that brings technology and nature closer together and, above all, lets you play rather than programme!
