General

The Ortega OUBJE90-MA banjolele is exactly what you would expect it to be: a cross between a banjo and a ukulele. Played and tuned like a uke with a high G, this instrument boasts the size of a concert ukulele and the resonance chamber of a banjo, complete with skin banjo head and open back. Its maple neck has 18 frets and has been stunningly finished with soft, satin lacquer while, for an even more stylishly vintage appearance, both the tone ring and machine heads are copper-coloured.

Ukulele or Banjo?

While the Ortega UWNY-44-CC strings installed on this banjolele make sure the instrument offers all the playing feel of a uke, the Remo skin and open-back design push the sound towards what would typically be considered banjo: clear, sharp tone packing plenty of punch. Because this acoustic sound can be easily amplified with the help of the built-in passive transducer pickup, this compact banjolele makes a great and useful addition to any uke aficionado's collection, especially if they're looking to discover new sounds.
