The API 525 is a golden oldie. In fact, this compressor has been re-released because of the success it once enjoyed in the 1970s, so now you can relive that same experience again. This compressor is of the "feedback" type, which means that the signal is measured at the output. The internal circuit is based on the well-known 2510 and 2520 op-amps and as for the threshold level, it is variably adjustable. The same applies to the output level. A ceiling-control provides you with extra room to lower the threshold level even more, and a de-ess function allows you to better control your vocals. Reading the applied attenuation is done via a classic VU meter and as for the release settings, there you are richly provided with 4 switchable modes. A make-up gain function is present to make up for the deficit and the ratio is adjustable from 2:1 to 20:1 and that means a limiter is also at hand. For optimal assessment, a hardwired bypass switch is present, and if you want to make use of multiple API 525s, you do it in a simple way using the linking option.
