A footswitch lets you toggle through the channels of guitar amplifiers and other gear but can also be used to toggle certain functions on and off. In addition, footswitches can be exceptionally useful in combination with guitar effects.
Footswitch Cables & USB, Bluetooth or MIDI Controllers
When you're looking for a footswitch, it's important to check whether any model you've got your eye on is compatible with your guitar amplifier or effect pedal. While some footswitches are universal, other models can be only be hooked up to specific bits of kit. The way footswitches are connected can also differ, though most units are plugged in with a standard mono jack cable. You can even get your hands on a USB or a Bluetooth footswitch these days, which offers the perk of cable-free control over your amp or a stompbox. And, besides footswitches, we stock a broad selection of MIDI controllers that can be used to control MIDI-based 19" rack effects and amps.
Latched or Unlatched (Momentary) Footswitch
Another important aspect of the footswitch is the type of switch it's equipped with. There's a distinction here between latched and unlatched (also called momentary) switches. Latched switches stay 'switched' after they're pushed down once, while an unlatched switch needs to be held down and will kill the effect it activates as soon as you release it, making it perfect for kill-switch stutter effects and pitch shifters you're only using to enrich a solo or riff. There are also footswitches available that allow you to freely latch and unlatch each switch.
