General
For the roots of the Yamaha DM3 digital mixer, we have to go way back. For Yamaha, it all started in 1987, with the DMP7. That was already a digital mixer with the features we still see today: motor faders, built-in effects, and a menu that lets you decide what the faders control. But with the DMP7, the display was still small and alphanumeric. With the DM3, it's about a 9-inch colour touch-screen. So times are changing, and for studio engineers, each new era becomes more comfortable and convenient!
Features of the Yamaha DM3
At its core, it is a mixer with 16 inputs (12 XLR, 4 XLR/jack), and that makes it a very nice device for your band. After all, at 6.5 kilos it's definitely not a very annoying thing to carry around, and in terms of settings you can give all the songs in the programme their own preset. With 16 inputs, you should also have more than enough to connect all your instruments and microphones, even if you're going to close-mike the drums. There are also eight XLR outputs on the back, and that creates opportunities to connect stage monitors for that band. There are plenty of practical situations you can do just fine with the DM3 And more importantly, Yamaha stands for great class, also when it comes to signal quality. Once you've worked with the DM3, you'll wonder why you worked with a somewhat laborious analogue mixer for so long anyway. In principle, it can also be used reasonably well in the studio, but it is the live circuit in which the DM3 really shines!
