Darkglass present the Hyper Luminal: a hybrid-style compressor housed in a solid and stylish stompbox and loaded with a significant number of widely used compression sounds with a fully analogue signal path. By combining an analogue VCA (voltage controller amplifier) with digital side-chaining, Darkglass have managed to reach studio-grade compression here, which can be fully tweaked via USB using the Darkglass Suite software available online to spice up the sound of your bass.

The Hyper Luminal: Adjustable Effect Intensity and 3 Popular Versions

With the Compression control, you can set the perfect amount of compression and gain compensation to dial in your sound, while the Ratio Touch Sensor can be used to decide just how intense the compression should be before you flip through the selectable modes: Bus mode gives you that legendary Solid State Logic sound; Fet mode includes the sound of the classic 1176 compressor and Darkglass' own popular Super Symmetry 115 GeV can be accessed in Sym mode. Lastly, literally next to the output volume control, you'll also find a Blend pot so that in addition to a compressor, you can use the Hyper Luminal as a transparent-sounding boost pedal.

Wrote the following about Darkglass Hyper Luminal Hybrid Compressor Bass Effect Pedal

Heb nu een middag met dit pedaal zitten spelen en ik ben erg onder de indruk. Het is een mooi, compact pedaal en komt erg degelijk over. De LEDs zijn klein duidelijk en niet overdreven fel. Het enige dat me verbaasd is de plaatsing van de 9v connector. Je legt je bedrading toch meestal boven de pedalen en de haakse plug aan de 9v kabel, moet dan door de jackplug aan de input heen. Dat is niet zo praktisch gemaakt.

Het geluid is erg zuiver, zelf de FET modus, wat toch duidelijk de vorm van een 1176 laat horen, is zuiverder dan ik van mijn 1176 plugins ken. De VAC is sterk, maar kan goed in detail afgesteld worden en de Symetry modus heeft een mooie dikke klank, en elke modus laat elk detail van het geluid van de bas goed door en haalt de details heel netjes omhoog. Ook het laag is erg netjes en constant. Wat ik zo hoor is de compressie aardig lineair.

Het deep editing dat via de computer kan is ook erg interessant. Elk compressor type heeft 4 mogelijke modussen en zaken als attack en release kunnen daar ook naar smaak aangepast worden.

Dit pedaal is erg veelzijdig en laat zich makkelijk bedienen. Persoonlijk vind ik het erg handig om een gain reduction meter te hebben, dat zie je niet vaak op pedalen. Ik ben erg tevreden.
