The DTX6K3-X is the flagship of Yamaha's popular DTX series. Yamaha DTX6K3-X electronic drum kit

A big advantage of this DTX6K3 kit is, of course, the fact that the XP80 and TP70 snare and tom pads feature TCS silicone heads. These Yamaha-designed heads hardly make any noise and give a realistic playing feel. This is because they mimic the rebound created by an acoustic kettle. On an acoustic kettle there are usually two heads and in between there is air. That air plays an important role in how well the sticks bounce back, and that is largely the 'playing feel' you often hear drummers talk about. The TCS heads have lots of little chambers of air and these make the rebound very similar to that of an acoustic set. The two crash cymbals and the ride cymbal have a 13-inch diameter and are so-called triple-zone cymbal pads. That means they feature three triggers. Besides the three triggers, the pad also registers exactly where you hit, and no two hits sound exactly the same - just like an acoustic drum kit! The cymbal pads have a choke function that lets you quickly mute the cymbal. The hihat is mounted on the included hihat stand, but the toms and cymbals are attached to the RS6 rack. The advantage of this rack is that the module is on the right, leaving space on the left for the hihat stand and possibly a twin pedal. Furthermore, as mentioned earlier, the set includes a KP90 kickpad that is suitable for single and double bass drum pedals.

Yamaha DTX PRO drum module

The DTX PRO module is where it all comes in. Yamaha has packed the DTX PRO module with high-quality samples, kits and presets. Of course, you can build your own kits using the sounds Yamaha supplies, but you can also load your own samples via a USB stick. You have the option to set various effects per channel and you can use compression, EQ and more. Yamaha DTX6K3-X Electronic Drum Kit

Mooi drumstel

Een heel mooi drumstel, met fantastische ‘vellen’ en heel veel mogelijkheden. Na 26 jaar DTXpress met rubberen pads (dat drumstel was onverwoestbaar!), nu naar de siliconen. Drumt erg lekker. Het drumstel heeft een mooi rack en de bekkens zijn goed te plaatsen. Mijn high hat is nog iets zachter dan de rest, maar er zijn heel wat instellingen, dus dat gaat goed komen.

Verbindingsproblemen
Maar bij het aansluiten van de DTXPRO, meegeleverd met de DTX6K3-X, had ik problemen bij de directe usb-verbinding tussen de telefoon en de DTXPRO.

Welke situaties waren het en wat heb ik eraan gedaan? De gebruikte en geteste apparaten zijn de recentere Galaxy A54 en de wat oudere Tablet A7 en de Galaxy A40.
Mijn Rec’n’Share app heeft versie 3.4.5.324. Ik luisterde bij de tests naar het geluid via de koptelefoon op de DTXPRO.

Kabels A54
Ik dacht plug and play te kunnen meespelen met Spotify, Youtube en andere apps die op mijn A54 telefoon staan. Daarvoor gebruikte ik een kabel usb/c naar usb/b, van 3 meter, usb 2.0.
Deze verbinding geeft 2 seconden geluid/muziek en daarna een enorm gekraak/ruis, daarna misschien weer even muziek en dan is het stil.

Yamaha zelf adviseert echter een andere kabel, namelijk van usb/c naar usb/a (met OTG - on the go) en dan een kabel usb/a naar usb/b. En gebruik usb 2.0! Bij deze kabel had ik hetzelfde effect.

Kabels A40 en A7
Als ik de kabels aansluit op de A40 en A7 werkt het blijkbaar anders. Ik kan met de A40 en A7 muziek afspelen naar de DTXPRO. Het geluid is zonder ruis of kraak en valt in eerste instantie niet weg.
Ik gebruikte Spotify en Youtube en ook filmpjes van Whatsapp, bijvoorbeeld.
Maar… na 4 minuten stopt het geluid. Het maakt niet uit welke app ik gebruik om af te spelen, de muziek stopt.

Batterij
Het stoppen van de muziek heeft te maken met de instelling van de batterij bij de desbetreffende apps en niets met de DTXPRO. Als de app alleen maar ‘zendt’ via de usb/c aansluiting, stopt de telefoon na 4 minuten. Dit is te veranderen door bij de app de batterij op ‘onbeperkt’ te zetten, zo lees ik op internet, maar dat helpt niet.
Als ik de usb-settings/logboek aan zet, via de ontwikkelaarsopties, lukt het me om de 4 minuten naar 6 minuten te verlengen. Verder niks meer onderzocht.

USB
Op de A54 blijft de telefoon na koppeling met de DTXPRO bij de usb-instellingen staan op ‘alleen laden’. Door de usb-instellingen te wijzigen, wat met veel moeite lukt (ik krijg hem op ‘bestanden’) zou de verbinding beter moeten zijn, maar het levert niks op. De A54 blijft ruisen en kraken.

Op de A40 en de A7 passen de usb-instellingen zich direct aan als ik de DTXPRO aansluit. Bij de usb-instellingen staat netjes: USB-audio – DTX Drums o.i.d.

Rec’n’Share
Op zich is deze app leuk om mee te werken. Je kunt immers video en je drumgeluid opnemen en nog veel meer. Maar de app heeft nog wat verbeterpunten. Bij mij zitten ze vooral in de verbinding.
Het beste is eerst de DTXPRO aan te zetten en daarna de aansluiting te maken met je telefoon of ander apparaat.
Ondanks dat, vraagt de app soms vaker om de verbinding goed te keuren, of gaat nog een keer verbinden (dat zie je bovenin het scherm, het groene vinkje).

Je lokale audiobestanden kun je gebruiken om mee te drummen, maar het inladen duurt soms lang en een keer liep de app vast. Ik heb de app verwijderd en opnieuw geïnstalleerd. Dat werkt de app weer. Wil je je opgenomen bestanden bekijken, exporteer dan vanuit Rec’n’Share. Je krijgt alles netjes in een map. Als de app eenmaal opneemt, loopt hij niet vast. Maar je hebt geduld nodig en Yamaha mag deze app op een aantal punten nog sterk verbeteren.

Conclusie
Bij mij is het direct meespelen met muziek via rechtstreekse verbinding met usb niet gelukt. Je moet toch anders naar de opzet en het gebruik kijken.
Want wat wel lukt en wat erg plezierig werkt, is gebruik te maken van 2 apparaten.
Op 1 apparaat zet je Rec’n’Share en deze verbind je met de DTXPRO. Met het andere apparaat speel je je liedjes af via de audio-input aan de voorkant.

De audio ingang aan de voorkant is een audio jack. Dus je gebruikt dan een draadje van je telefoon, een audio-jack naar audio-jack, of je gebruikt een usb/c /audio-jack draad naar de audio-jack-ingang, of je gebruikt Bluetooth: bijvoorbeeld een Strex receiver. Je speelt af via Bluetooth, de Strex ontvangt het geluid en via de audio-jack kabel krijgt de DTXPRO het geluid binnen.
Nu kun je meespelen, terwijl het ene apparaat opnemmet.
