To say that the DR-40X was a huge stunner of a hit is a huge understatement. That field recorder was astronomically popular, and in itself understandable given its price and capabilities. But the DR-40X is no more; replaced by the latest shoot on the tree: the Tascam DR-40XP field recorder. Is it the same thing? In a way, the XP is quite similar - after all, you let a winning horse run along nicely. But in line with many similar products of late, this XP now also supports 32-bit float. This makes it especially easier to make a recording without having to worry very much about the gain of your microphones.

Improved signal path of the Tascam DR-40XP

So that 32-bit float is quite important, but there are more improvements to the signal path. It's mainly about the components used; better shielding against radio/smartphone interference, better pre-amps and better clocking. For most end users, it will all be fine, the only thing that is really relevant in the end is that the DR-40XP is simply a much better recorder than its predecessor. Incidentally, what made that predecessor - and thus this one again - so interesting are the adjustable microphones. This allows you to decide whether you want more of an AB setup or more of an XY setup. By no means every field recorder offers this option. Again, this DR-40XP can function as a USB audio interface and a USB microphone. All in all: this DR-40XP will once again score high!

Wrote the following about Tascam DR-40XP field recorder

L'unité que j'ai acheté présentait un bruit de fond catastrophique avec les microphones internes comme avec les entrées XLR qui rendait les enregistrements inexploitables. Merci à BaxMusic qui a accepté immédiatement le retour du produit.
On peut se poser des questions sur le sérieux de TASCAM et des soi-disant nouveaux pré amplis micros HDDA.
Je ne renouvellerai pas cet achat et préfère attendre les retours d'autres utilisateurs.
Quelle déception !...
