The days when audio quality was deemed much less important than video quality are over. The Tascam DR-70D makes sure of that. It's a great companion for your DSLR camera - simply attach it underneath. Featuring four independent XLR/jack inputs with phantom power, the DR-70D enables you to record four mono sources or two stereo signals. Additionally, the recorder is equipped with two high-grade, built-in microphones that perfectly register ambient sound. The DR-70D records to an SD card with a maximum of 128GB storage capacity. Never before has your audio sounded this good!
Tascam DR-70D: High-Grade Recordings
The standard built-in microphones that come with cameras are rarely capable of delivering the high-quality audio you need for serious recordings. This Tascam audio recorder, however, is up to the task, enabling you to make recordings at a sample rate of up to 96 kHz and a bit rate of 24 bits. With the DR-70D, it's possible to make quick, on-the-fly stereo mixes of all incoming signals - ideal if you're working on a video set. Add a pair of headphones and you can easily play back your recordings.
Overview
Labelling your audio files is very important. To that end, the Tascam DR-70D has been equipped with a large display of 128 by 64 pixels. It's possible to transfer files via USB for post-production or back-up purposes and, to keep the device as mobile as possible, this Tascam unit can be powered by just four AA batteries but can also be powered using an optional AC adapter.

De Tascam is een aanvulling op mijn Canon camcorder en Canon DSLR camera en ik verwacht vooral bij muziekopnames (klassiek, viool en piano) een aanzienlijk betere geluidskwaliteit te bereiken dan met de Canon richtmicrofoon van de camera.
Verder zeer tevreden over de aankoop, en zou het aan iedereen aanraden die minimaal 4 XLR ingangen nodig heeft. Als dat niet zo is kan je beter de DR-60dD kopen.
De kwaliteit van de test opnamen was uitstekend, met name het zeer lage ruisniveau viel me als heel positief op. Uiteraard kan je allerlei verschillende typen (ook duurdere) microfoons gebruiken, met fantoom voeding. Ik gebruik de DR-70D het liefst met USB power, zodat de batterijen niet leegraken. Je kunt daarvoor een USB-A naar micro USB kabel aanschaffen, en een 220V naar 5V USB adapter. De bediening van het apparaat is redelijk gemakkelijk te leren. Makkelijker iedergeval dan de Zoom R16 recorder die ik niet erg intuitief vond qua bediening. Als je dus voor relatief weinig geld een zeer goede 4 kanaals recorder wilt hebben, die fantoom voeding/XLR inputs ondersteunt, dan is dit een prima koop. Uiteraard is de recorder speciaal voor gebruik met DSLR kamera bedoeld, maar kan ook prima solo gebruikt worden.
Ik heb jarenlang als professioneel cameraman gewerkt en had altijd twee audiokanalen tot mijn beschikking. Nu heb ik met deze Tascam DR-70D vier audiokanalen en dat is heerlijk. Ik zou niet meer terug willen.
Een nadeel is de beperkte batterijduur. De Tascam vreet stroom en dus is een extra set batterijen bij een opnamedag essentieel. De kwaliteit van de opnames is echter dermate goed dat ik daar niet moeilijk over doe. Topproduct!
