The DiMarzio DP116 HS-2 is particularly known for two things: in humbucking mode, this element has a solid and natural sound, which is cleaner and brighter than a regular humbucker. And in single coil mode, on the contrary, you get a fine, typically vintage sound you expect from a single coil. The HS-2 is one of the first replacement pickups made by DiMarzio in the 1980s and is still a favourite after all this time. In a typical strat layout, the HS-2 works well in all three positions, but can also be combined well with the HS-3 and HS-4 pickups. It also works fine in H-S-H configuration, with, for example, the PAF Pro, FRED, Air Classic or Humbucker from Hell pickups in the neck and bridge positions.
