General
With the DiMarzio DP 257F Illuminator Bridge pickup, you get a very fine bridge pickup. This element is F-spaced, so it is only suitable for guitars with a Floyd Rose or similar tremolo bridge. The pickup was designed with endorser and Dream Theater guitarist John Petrucci, who likes bridge and neck pickups that work together, but also deliver a usable sound on their own. The Illuminator bridge pickup mainly does three things: it opens up the mids, boosts the highs a notch and makes the low end a lot tighter. The open midrange makes distorted sounds powerful without sounding lifeless or too loud, while the tight bass response avoids muddy low end.
