While introduced decades back, the 85 is still one of EMG's best-sellers. Team up the little monster that is the EMG 85 with an EMG 81 and you have yourself a dreamteam of a loadout when it comes to heavier genres and playing styles. Even at the most extreme of gain settings, this humbucker keeps your riffs tight articulate, which is exactly whyit's become a staple of both the jazz and metal scenes. Because of its slightly milder output, the 85 has been set up for the neck position but works just as well in the bridge position.

Installing Your New EMG Pickup

EMG pickups come including everything needed to install them, so there are no nasty surprises during the mounting process. Even a set of 25k volume and tone potentiometers are included as standard, both specially tuned for active pickups and fully prepared for the EMG Quik-Connect system - which is conveniently 100% solder-free. • Unfortunately, since different manufacturers use their own solderless system for their active pickups. the EMG Quik Connect system is not compatible with the solderless system of other manufacturers.
• The EMG ST-style 3-way pickup switch (not included) can be combined with this pickup and installed without the need for solder (see the bundle deals below).
• If installing this pickup in an electric guitar fitted with a long-shaft output jack, the output jack will need to be replaced with a stereo output jack.
