EMG 89 active humbucker

In addition to the legendary 81 and 85, EMG also produces the 89. You can essentially think of this element in a humbucker housing as two elements in one. In fact, it is possible to switch this element from humbucker to single-coil by means of, for example, a push-pull potentiometer. The Alnico V magnet core of is of the same type as on the 85 and provides a clear and balanced active humbucker. From full, rich humbucker sounds to bright, balanced single-coil sounds. The versatile EMG 89 is capable of both clean and distortion.

Installing your EMG cartridge

EMG cartridges are delivered very complete. So there are no unpleasant surprises during installation. For instance, potentiometers for volume and tone control are supplied that are specifically designed for active elements. These 25k potentiometers are already prepared for the EMG Quik-Connect system, making soldering unnecessary. The included stereo output jack can also be connected solderless. For a completely solderless installation, there are EMG's separately available element switches.

Tips or comments about this product

• Several active element manufacturers use their own solderless systems. The Quik-Connect system is not compatible with other manufacturers' solderless systems.
• With the separately available ST-style 3-position switch, soldering is unnecessary.
• If you have a guitar with a long-shaft output jack, you should replace it with a separately available stereo one.
