For over 40 years, the Seymour Duncan JB humbucker has been the textbook example of a Hot Rodded humbucker. It was one of the first humbuckers designed specifically for high output. This is achieved by an alnico 5 magnet and extra coil windings. That this is a successful formula is obvious. Still today, the Seymour Duncan JB humbucker is widely used to give guitars a substantial upgrade. This is the TB-4 JB, intended for the bridge position of guitars with tremolo bridge. The four-core cable also makes the element suitable for coil split switching.

Trembucker

If you want to replace the elements on your guitar, there are a number of important factors to consider. One of the factors that is often overlooked at first is the so-called string spacing. This string spacing is quite different between guitars with a fixed bridge and guitars with a tremolo bridge. Although only fractions of millimetres are involved, it is still very important. For best results, the magnetic poles of the elements should be exactly under the corresponding strings. So this TB-4 JB is specifically designed for guitars with a tremolo bridge.

Of course, if the JB only gave a higher output than a standard humbucker, the model would never have become such a success. The JB has a very specific and recognisable sound, with a delicious punch in the mid frequencies, tight basses and solid trebles. Even with a clean sound, the JB holds up excellently.
