General

Pearl's patented Free Floating system has changed the drumming world forever. It allows for maximum resonance and tone, because the shell and hardware are not in contact with each other. Pearl has introduced a line of Task Specific Free Floating snare drums, that are 14 inches wide and come in a variety of depths, each utilising specific shell materials to optimize the drum's sound with respect to its depth.

Pearl FTMH1480 Free Floating Task Specific snare drum

This Pearl FTMH1480 Free Floating Task Specific mahogany snare drum has a 14 x 8-inch African mahogany shell, that is a whopping 8 plies or 10 mm thick. This makes the drum seriously loud, while allowing it to produce a great well-rounded sound.
The beauty of the Free Floating system, however, is that replacing your shell is as easy as replacing a drumhead, making it easy to try a different material, or a different finish.
