General

Built by Sequential (formally Dave Smith Instruments), the OB-6 analogue synthesizer module is essentially the same as the keyboard-equipped version, but in a handy-sized retro-style unit. It has the same functionality, the same connectors and the same great sound. Just like the synth, this module was developed by Sequential and Tom Oberheim. This fully-analogue synth module may have an authentic vintage look and sound, but it also has digital effects on board and modern features like MIDI, USB-MIDI, LEDs and room for hundreds of presets.

The Sequential Instruments OB-6 Module

This six-voice polyphonic analogue synth module has two discrete voltage-controlled oscillators, a sub oscillator and a noise oscillator per voice and because they're analogue, they have rich overtones too. Their combined signal is sent to a 12 dB filter (with low-pass, band-pass, high-pass and notch functionality), so you can colour the spectrum. An analogue VCA follows and a comprehensive, studio-grade effects section completes the picture. Along the way, you'll have plenty of possibilities to shape your sound by means of envelopes, LFO, various routing options and real-time controls. In other words, you'll certainly get the chance to express yourself musically!

Wrote the following about Sequential OB-6 (module) Analogue Synthesizer

In de jaren 80 heb ik nog een OB-X mogen bespelen, dat ding had een klank die je uit geen ander apparaat kreeg. Ook de Oberheim Maxtrix1000 was geweldig, maar klonk nog steeds niet zoals die oudere OB-X. Pas met de OB-6 én de combinatie met de vintage setting uit de meest recente firmware update, bereiken we terug een gelijkaardige klankkleur als uit vervlogen tijden.
De OB-6 is ronduit geweldig; de ploeg van Dave Smith heeft gezorgd voor een super interface (géén menu diving om met klanken te experimenteren!) en Tom Oberheim heeft gezorgd voor de klankkleur.
Dit is mijn inziens een synth die de geschiedenisboekjes zal halen.

Right now, the Summer NAMM 2016 convention is happening in Nashville, Tennessee. While it's not as huge as the Winter NAMM in California or Messe in Frankfurt, it's a great place to find out what brands are up to. Take Dave Smith, for example. This experienced synthesizer specialist has just announced the launch of their new OB-6 module, which is the desktop version of the earlier-released OB-6. It's got the same possibilities and the same sound in a compact package!
