Yamaha's MX88 is a synthesizer that's ideal for modern pianists, aspiring music producers, and live performers. With more than 100 years of piano manufacturing experience under their belt, it's no surprise that Yamaha can create an instrument that plays and responds just like a real acoustic piano. The MX88 has 88 full-sized, touch-sensitive keys that have a Graded Hammer Standard (GHS) weighted action. There are more than 1,000 voices on board that come from the legendary MOTIF series. The MX88 also has a built-in audio and MIDI interface so that you can easily connect it to a computer. This flagship model will open the door to all sorts of musical creativity.

MX88: Doubles as a DAW controller

This synth has another trick up its sleeve too, it can also be used as a DAW controller! In fact, it even comes with Cubase AI for PC and Mac as well as Cubasis LE for iOS. Adjusting parameters in recording software can be done using certain controls on the MX88 that have assignable functionality. Use the MX88's MIDI interface to control other synths or samplers. You can even use the FM Essential iOS app to communicate with this synth using your smartphone or tablet. The app also gives you access to the FM synthesis engine that contains 256 iconic '80s-style voices.

Authentic feel for perfect performances

This is the top model in Yamaha's MX series and as such it has the sound of the Full Concert Grand Piano from the MOTIF series. The GHS weighted action keys ensure an authentic feel and response by offering increased resistance on the lower keys compared to the higher ones. With a weight of just 13.9 kg, the MX88 is portable enough to take with you to every rehearsal and performance. Wrote the following about Yamaha MX88 Music Synthesizer

Ik gebruik de MX88 vooral live voor e-piano en blazers klanken en een paar modernere synth klanken. Iedereen vindt deze klanken lekker klinken in het bandgeluid. Ik speel op amateur niveau, Het basis piano geluid vind ik persoonlijk niet droog genoeg. Maar het is live wel bruikbaar voor sommige nummers. Ik vind de MX88 heel lekker spelen, de aanslaggevoeligheid van de toetsen vind ik goed aansluiten bij de klankopbouw, het klankverloop van de verschillende klanken. Ik vind dat ik er daardoor heel muzikaal (met gevoel) en swingend op kan spelen. Met de manual had ik snel door hoe je klanken wat kunt aanpassen en in performances kunt opslaan. Voor een nummer kies ik nu live het performance nummer dat er bij hoort en kan direct inzetten. Je kunt de MX88 namelijk in een stand zetten voor het snel kiezen van die performances. Ik vind het een geweldig apparaat voor het geld, inspirerend. Het enige dat ik me afvraag is of de behuizing niet minder diep en minder hoog had gekund. Mijn Roland piano is wat zwaarder, maar slanker. Wat zou de MX88 makkelijk kunnen dragen als hij wat slanker zou zijn! Maar misschien is dit nodig voor de stabiliteit, zodat de aanslaggevoeligheid helemaal tot zn recht komt? Ik weet het niet. Feit is dat ik de MX88 heel lekker vind spelen maar niet makkelijk vind dragen. Ik ben vooral tevreden over de keus aan preset klanken en de mogelijkheid om die naar je eigen smaak in een snel oproepbare performance op te slaan voor live gebruik. Ik vind de automaat die er in zit met ritmes en arpeggios heel tof klinken, maar ik gebruik dat zelf niet. Ik ga voor samen spelen in/met een band.
