With the ETX series, Electro Voice offers a number of ingenious speakers and subwoofer, including the ETX-15P. The built-in DSP offers an impressive number of options for adjusting the positioning and timbre of your sound. Electro Voice has years of experience when it comes to building speakers and all of that knowledge and wisdom has been packed into the design of this 2,000W speaker. In ideal conditions, this solid speaker is capable of a deafening 135 dB of sound pressure.
The ETX-15P: DSP Power
The Electro Voice ETX-15P is driven by a powerful DSP engine, making it possible to adjust the speaker to perform optimally in any given environment. First off, you have the choice of Music, Speech, and Live settings. Depending on your choice, the speaker is optimised to reproduce your signal. You can then select your placement settings with the DSP, specifying whether the speaker is mounted on a stand or being used as a monitor. This setting optimises the internal EQ depending on the position you choose. For use in larger systems, a subwoofer setting is also available. When switched to subwoofer, the crossover is activated and the signal is split, sending the bass frequencies to the subwoofer output. The entire sound can be adjusted via the 3 pre-programmed presets with a limited number of additional adjustments. It is also possible to add a delay that's adjustable by metre, which optimises the sound waves so that multiple speakers won't cancel each other out when being used simultaneously.

Ik heb er nadien ook de ETX 18 subkasten bijgekocht. Deze actieve twee-weg combinatie geeft dan een prachtig breed en heel gedefinieerd geluid met veel punch in de bassen. Je hoort echt alle details in het geluid en een heel duidelijk stereobeeld. Heel tevreden.
Het is niet strikt nodig maar ik overweeg om er nog twee extra subs bij aan te schaffen. Dan kan je in openlucht zeker al een flink concert geven voor een middelgroot publiek. Benieuwd dan naar de 'cardio-setting' met 1 subkast naar achter gericht met de DSP-instelling op 'cardio' ingesteld waardoor het basgeluid naar het podium toe verminderd wordt (minder geluidsoverlast op podium) en de meeste bas dus het publiek in gaat.
Minpuntjes op de ETX speakers zijn:
- jammer dat er geen powercon inputs aanwezig zijn en geen power-doorlus connecties. Dus wat meer gedoe met schuko's stopkontaktdoosjes. De bijgeleverde stroomkabels mochten van wat soepeler rubber gemaakt zijn.
- door gebrek aan extra handvaten op de subkasten iets moeilijker hanteerbaar om neer te leggen en weer rechtop te tillen. Maar is wel te doen, zeker met een helper/roadie.
- de wielen zijn handig maar voor transport een nadeel dat er van de vier wielen niet enkele met rem werden uitgerust. Bij transport in de vrachtwagen is dit een gevaar omdat ze kunnen gaan rollen in de laadruimte tijdens het rijden indien ze niet door andere flightcases worden tegengehouden. Ik ga wellicht ooit enkele wielen vervangen door wielen met rem (als het formaat ervan even groot is tenminste).
