General

The FX 16 MKII by Soundcraft is a 16-channel mixer with a comprehensive effects section that is perfect for live sound or studio recording. It has no fewer than sixteen input channels with XLR and jack connectors, as well as four stereo returns for connecting effects. You may not need the latter connectors however, considering the FX 16 MK II has a 24-bit Lexicon digital effects processor of its own built in. The on-board effects can be adjusted to your wishes using three control knobs and even saved for later use.

The mixer also features a 3-band equalizer that offers a little more functionality than normal, with a sweep control that lets you accurately choose and adjust the mid frequencies. Phantom power is also available so that condenser microphones will also work perfectly with the mixer. In short, the FX16 MK II by Soundcraft is a very complete, versatile and robust mixer with a great sound.

Het mooie van dit mengpaneel is dat elke kanaal een aparte output heeft. Daarmee is het dus mogelijk om in een live jamsetting met meerdere grooveboxes, et cetera, de instrumenten onafhankelijk van elkaar op te nemen in een multitrack recorder of DAW. Daarnaast kun je simultaan een stereomix maken op het mengpaneel en dit ook in je DAW opnemen. Het mengpaneel heeft tal van hoogwaardige effecten als reverb ingebouwd. Erg handig ook dat je sporen aan een submix op het mengpaneel (rechts naast de master) kan toevoegen. Dat is bijvoorbeeld handig in een live band setting, dan kun je de drums als een geheel mixen en gemakkelijk als geheel controleren. Deze mixer komt met een heel handige handleiding waarin ook heel duidelijk met tekeningen staat aangegeven hoe je de mixer in verschillende situaties kunt inzetten. Denk bijvoorbeeld aan een concert met meerdere instrumentalisten en een koor. Het is verstandig om een aantal redelijke microfoons aan te schaffen bij dit mengpaneel, dan is het mogelijk om op de klassieke manier songs te maken, waarbij je je DAW als het ware als een tape machine gebruikt. Dit mengpaneel geeft de instrumenten een analoge feel maar klinkt toch ook zeer helder. Zelf koos ik voor dit mengpaneel (16 kanaals) en niet voor de multitrack versie van 22 kanaals. Omdat deze mtr mengpanelen van Soundcraft met name via USB werken en zo geven ze naar mijn idee niet per se die analoge vibe mee waar ik naar opzoek bent. Natuurlijk is het wel erg mooi dat je met je digitale mengpaneel samen met je DAW-instellingen kunt mixen. Voor alles is wat te zeggen. De Soundcraft FX16ii is qua formaat en prestaties de ideale keuze voor mij.
