The ride cymbal is a large cymbal that usually maintains a steady rhythmic pattern, just like the hi-hat. The sound has a very long sustain which slowly fades away and is rather subtle. The bell in the middle has a very unique, clear sound. The ride can also serve as a crash cymbal when it is struck powerfully. Some ride cymbals have been developed for this dual function and are therefore called a crash/ride, which is ideal for smaller Drum Kits. Most ride cymbals measure 20 inches, but there are also 18 to 22-inch cymbals. The smaller, thinner cymbals, which have a more refined sound, are very well suited for jazz music, whereas the larger ones are preferred for higher volumes, like in rock music. When you order a ride cymbal, do not forget to add a good stand and a protective cover or case.
