There are so many electronic drum kits that sometimes you can't see the wood for the trees. Fortunately, there are some standouts for every level and budget. Like this DDK-080 from Fazley. This drum kit is aimed at drummers who are just starting out and want an electronic drum kit at home that they can practise on. The module is quite easy to operate and basically contains everything you need. A whopping 329 sounds, 15 preset kits, the ability to compile 10 drum kits of your own and 10 fun play along songs. The module has a 128 x 64 px LCD display and an English-language menu. Of course, it also includes a click track that you can practice with. You can of course drum with a separately available set of headphones, but it is also possible to connect the module to an amplifier. This drum kit is suitable for all ages!

Fazley DDK-080 electronic drum kit

The composition of the DDK-080 is five-piece, with a hihat, crash and ride. The snare drum and the three toms are 8-inch in diameter and have two triggers (dual zone). The hihat, crash and ride cymbals are all 10-inch in diameter. All cymbals have a 'choke' function, which means that if you hit the crash with your stick - you can mute the cymbal again by gripping it with your hand. The cymbals have 1 trigger (single zone). The DDK-080 also comes with two pedals. A bass drum pedal with built-in trigger, and a hihat pedal with built-in trigger. The advantage of these types of pedals is that they don't hit anything, so vibrations from floors and walls are less. Speaking of which - thanks to the mesh skins on the toms and snare, the acoustic noise you hear when you're playing is minimal. Of course, you will hear some ticking, but it makes a huge difference! A fantastic Kit, easy to assemble and with an inspired look.

The voices are a fairly good range, but I would have preferred a few less standard kit sounds but with a small selection of Percussion voices such as Tambourine, Cowbell, Woodblock, Gong and Timpani etc.
Maybe it could be an option to return the module in the future to have it re-flashed with different voices?

The Bax Music Product guide says that the Cymbals have a Choke function, but I don't think they do!

Out of the box, the separation between Rim and Mesh sounds didn't require any tweaking; the only parameter I had to adjust was the sensitivity of the Crash!

The TEMPO button doesn't seem to have the Tap Tempo function suggested in the User Guide!

The way the drums mount makes the kit just that bit more compact; and as I never intend to purchase an acoustic kit; the Kick Trigger is just fine and matches (obviously) the 'feel' of the Hi-Hat.

The built in songs are adequate for learning the drums and unlike lesser kits, I think the Drum Mute function is a necessity.

With the option of an additional Cymbal (Crash 2) and fourth Tom, I would very much recommend this kit as a first-time purchase.
