General
For the classic metal guitarist, the DiMarzio DP117 HS-3 is a good choice. The single coil pickup has a relatively low output, which, especially when combined with distortion, produces a very fine metal sound. The pickup works well in all three positions in a strat layout, giving you a slightly warmer sound than usual. The HS-3 also works very well as a bridge pickup with an HS-4 in the neck position and an HS-2 in the middle position. The HS-3 also works well in the middle position with humbuckers in the bridge position, such as the PAF Pro, PAF, Air Classic and Norton.
