If you own a shotgun microphone (on a camera, for example), then you know a good windshield is a must-have because it reduces unwanted wind and handling noises. Traditionally, broadcasting windshields are fuzzy and hairy, and often referred to as a 'dead cat'. The Rycote Cyclone 3D-Tex windshield for shotgun microphones is clearly a different story, and its success is all thanks to its material. 3D-Tex is a new sort of fabric with a clear cell structure which allows for a transparent sound.

Properties of the Rycote Cylone

This enormous windshield (a.k.a a 'blimp') offers space for numerous mics. Its interior has a shock-mount which is designed to hold your microphone securely. What's more, if you need to get at something on the inside, you don't have to pull the Cyclone loose, as it's securely fastened by magnets! This is a product for professionals like journalists working in the field, where there is no time to be fumbling with impractical gadgetry. Although its size may have you thinking otherwise, the Cyclone is actually very lightweight, another practical advantage.

3D-Tex

The windshield's texture is designed to keep wind noises out, but allow what you want to record to come in, loud and clear. 3D-Tex is also water-resistant, so adverse weather conditions like rain is no problem with the Cyclone. Simply allow it to dry and it can be used again straight away. Another advantage of this new material is that it lasts a lot longer than those hairy blimps. Above all, you won't need to have a brush or comb handy any more!
