General

MXR's Phase pedals have been one of the most iconic guitar effects for decades, thanks to guitarists like Eddie van Halen. The Phase 95 is a compact pedal that won't take up much room on your pedal board. Don't let its size fool you however, this mini-sized pedal modulates sound to the max. It's essentially two pedals in one as it has two modes: the sound of the Phase 90 and the sound of the Phase 45. The Phase 95 gives you the sound of both of these iconic pedals for a broad range of phase sounds.

Modes and controls

Each of the two modes have a different character. The Phase 45 mode is the more vintage and subtle of the two, while the Phase 90 is more modern and extreme. The Script button makes it possible to choose the type of phasing within a mode and the speed of the effect can be adjusted using the Speed knob. The Phase 95 is a true bypass pedal and can be powered by a 9V adapter (not included). There's never been a compact phaser as versatile as the MXR M290 Phase 95 effect pedal before.

Wrote the following about MXR M290 Phase 95 effects pedal

Prima pedaaltje. Zocht een klein phaser pedaal die niet veel ruimte in nam. Keuze is dus uiteindelijk hierop gevallen. Was een beetje bang dat het een te overheersende sound had en dat je dit niet kunt tweaken met maar 1 draai knop, maar kan met de 4 verschillende settings prima uit de voeten. Van (phase 95 mode, non-script) diepe swirls tot subtiel (phase 45 mode, script). De noodzaak om verder te willen tweaken is echt niet nodig, voldoet perfect voor verschillende phase effecten voor verscheidene genres. Scheelt ook weer aan controleren hoe de knoppen ook al weer stonden ingesteld tussen gigs. Een volume- of trebleboost is mij niet echt opgevallen.

Jammer, maar voor mij valt de MXR Phase 95 tegen: hij geeft een duidelijk waarneembare, ja zelfs storende volume- en trebleboost. Jammer, want de extra mogelijkheden waren bijzonder aanlokkelijk. Ik denk dat ik het toch maar bij mijn oude Phase 90 ga houden. Die is ook verre van perfect (bv. overstuurt bij een te hot signaal), maar hij blijft veel meer trouw aan de basisklank van je instrument.
