The potent Tascam Portacapture X8 multi-track recorder is able to record six simultaneous channels plus a stereo mix; can be set up to serve as an audio interface; and supports 192 kHz/32-bit, high-resolution recordings. This is combined with the intuitive Launcher system: an app-style control interface accessed via a 3.5 inch full-colour touchscreen which completely streamlines preset selection and parameter adjustments, making operation as fast and slick as possible. The provided settings are task focussed, so users can select various modes, including Field, Voice, Music, Podcast, and even ASMR, while the included Manual mode will suit more unique applications and more experienced sound engineers. The two pre-mounted condenser microphones combine with HDDA preamps for superb, high-quality audio capture and can be easily set to record in an A-B or X-Y configuration as needed.

DSP Effects & Connection Options

The Tascam Portacapture X8 also provides an array of high-grade DSP effects, including a compressor, limiter, low-cut filter, noise gate, reverb, auto gain control, and more. This powerful handheld recorder can also be coupled with an iOS or Android device using Tascam's AK-BT1 Bluetooth dongle (sold separately). Up to four external microphones or line-level instruments can be plugged in, while an AUX input, line-output, and a camera input and output have also been provided. Every possible recording scenario has been catered for, so the recorder can be used in standalone mode, or connected to a computer via USB-C to serve as a comprehensive audio interface. Recordings can be monitored using the fitted headphone output or checked using the integrated speaker, and to support audiovisual applications, 'mark' and 'slate' functions have also been included. However it's set up, users can record directly to micro-SD, micro-SDHC, and micro-DSDXC cards with a maximum capacity of 512 gigabytes.
