Product information
General
D'Angelico's Excel DC semi-acoustic guitars pay homage to the guitars of the 50s and 60s. This means a warm sound and rich resonance, but with a modern twist for a comfortable playing feel. For instance, the cutaways are deep and comfortable and the neck possesses a thin C profile with a 16-inch wide body shape for ultimate playability. A body, by the way, made of laminated maple and a lightweight centre block to keep the instrument feather light and counteract feedback at higher volume levels. The ebony fingerboard further features Jescar 47104 fretwire that is again inspired by the vintage frets from the glory days of these guitars and plays as you would expect.
Versatile sound palette through Seymour Duncan '59 pickups
To pull off an impressive tonal range, D'Angelico opted for two Seymour Duncan humbucker pickups, a DA-59 at the neck and an SH-4 at the bridge, in addition to the selected woods. These pickups give a warm sound in the lower frequency range and a crystal-clear character in the higher frequencies. Everything about the instrument oozes class and vintage appeal. So do the Grover 509 Super Rotomatic tuning machines that simply offer stable tuning in addition to their familiar features. Finally, the gold-plated hardware gives the instrument its classy look. The ebony volume and tone knobs are also a nice detail. If you are looking for a semi-acoustic guitar with plenty of sustain, then the Excel DC from D'Angelico is really for you.
