The incredible focus produced by the long interference-tube of the Neumann KMR 82i shotgun microphone means that any sound outside of a 45° angle is barely picked up, and any sound registered from the sides still retains a natural feel due to the smooth, off-axis response. Since the entire lower frequency spectrum just isn't needed when recording speech, the KMR 82i comes fitted with a built in low-cut filter to clean the recording of any 'rumbling', making this model perfect for close-miking. Meanwhile, the built-in high-cut filter can be engaged to prevent the sound from getting overly shrill. This microphone boasts an enormous dynamic range, and to prevent overdriving the microphone and recorder, loud sound can be softened using the onboard attenuator.
