All kinds of cameramen have a high-end camera, for the very best images in the highest resolutions. For sound, however, we will want to refer to a high-end recorder, like this Tascam FR-AV4 field recorder. This FR-AV4 is a true on-the-road product, with many connectors, hands-on control, and the ability to screw it onto a tripod. There are four XLR/jack inputs, for microphone and line signals. These four are recorded simultaneously, as well as the stereo mix signal, to an SD/SDHC/SDXC card. This technically makes it a 6-track recorder, but it's all about four inputs.
Big class of the Tascam FR-AV4
The quality the professional wants is entirely present. A huge 133 dB dynamic range smiles at you, and because of the 32-bit float processing, you actually no longer have issues with the old situations where signals are recorded too loud or too soft. With each XLR/jack connector, phantom power can be individually selected (24V, 48V). Do you have an Android or iOS device? If so, you can use the Tascam Recorder Connect app to control the FR-AV4. Is that convenient? Certainly; imagine if you want to stand at a distance from the recorder, for example in nature with animals that prefer not to have people nearby. All in all, a robust and highly potent recorder for camera professionals!
