Since its introduction in 1966, the Neumann U 87 has become one of the most widely used studio microphones of all time. This is partly due to its characteristic sound. With a subtle boost in the high-mid, it gives you a helping hand when mixing. The most recent version is the U 87 Ai. It has a higher output and a better signal-to-noise ratio than its grandfather but the sound has remained the same. This studio set comes with EA 87 shockmount and wooden case.
The switch on the front lets you choose between three directional characteristics: cardioid, omnidirectional and bidirectional. For very loud instruments such as guitar amps and drums, the U 87 Ai has a -10 dB attenuator on board. So your recordings remain free of distortion and crackling. You can counteract proximity effect and other unwanted rumble in the low end with the built-in high-pass filter.
