General
The Manley Reference Cardioid isn’t exactly the cheapest mic in your studio, but it certainly belongs there. This is a mic with a reputation, and that reputation has now made it the de facto choice in the world of hip-hop, pop and rock. The mic features a 6-micron gold-sputtered diaphragm – thicker than usual – tuned to the classic European U47 topology, with the characteristic proximityeffect and that warm, controlled high end that lets vocals ‘sit’ without you having to apply corrective EQ. This isn’t the mic for anyone looking for ‘neutral and clean’. This is the mic for those who already know that vocals benefit from character before the EQ, not after. It’s the mic for those who want the sound to be right straight away, without having to mix around it. It’s from the American brand Manley, and worth every euro, dollar or bitcoin!
