General
The EKX-15P active two-way speaker combines EV's renowned sound quality and reliability with the latest audio technology in a compact, portable speaker suited for a wide variety of applications. You won't need to spend much time with this speaker to realise just how versatile it is. Equipped with EV's own speaker and amplifier components for superior sound quality, this speaker features EV's famous single-knob control, as well as their QuickSmartDSP. You'll find a convenient LCD screen on the rear panel for intuitive menu navigation along with a choice of four helpful presets for live setups (music, live, speech, and club).
Design
The EV EKX-15P is equipped with Electro Voice's patented SSTs (Signal Synchronized Transducers) for precise, consistent coverage. Thanks to the relatively lightweight, compact design, this speaker is great for both mobile use and fixed installations. The 15mm plywood housing has an EVCoat, eight M10 mounting points, a stand flange and metal handles on both sides.
Positioning
The EKX series is the latest addition to Electro Voice's portable speaker range and as such, features speakers that combine the legendary accuracy of EV audio quality with the reliability of the latest technology. All of this is combined in compact housing to make a versatile speaker that can be applied to most, if not all situations. From DJing, amplifying live bands or as part of fixed installations, this speaker is ready for anything. A little older than the ZLX and ELX series and younger than the ETX series, the EKX series is a reliable if not remarkable middle child.

They sound nice & do the job with enough volume for small-medium/small sized rooms combined with subs.
Its hard when it comes to buying disco speakers as most things below £600/speaker loose quality at peak-party, or not loud enough? Line array you need to spend over £1500/speaker as almost all are allot quieter than traditional design speakers, or can't push all the sound back very far (sounds bad past the dance floor were people socialise).
These speakers have a "clubby" sound the way they process sound (that i personally don't like), but clients who book small rooms do like the sound very much as they sound similar to my old RCF 715's, but can go louder keeping all the quality as the 715's just couldn't quite get there for some clients "peak-party" vibe, but the EKX do very well.
Summery: They do small-medium sized rooms combined with subs well, they are priced "midrange" so better quality & a bit louder than the budget models or Alto etc. but would not do bigger rooms as can't push the quality to the back of a ballroom like SRX can. These speakers are "bang on the money" as actually do what they say (don't use misleading spl/dB numbers), so perfect for small-medium sized rooms. Only 2 things I can have a grumble about is they are a bit heavy for the output but the build quality is excellent!!! as made to last, & the side handles are a bit low.

Achetée en stock B, bon prix, mais déformation de la grille avant: peu esthétique, pas de chance pour moi...
Malgré ce défaut (pas visible sur les photos de la vente), je garde le produit car le bon fonctionnement n'est pas du tout affecté.

Ik heb lang getwijfeld, ik wilde nieuwe, nee ik moest nieuwe speakers. Als mobiele dj zocht ik een tijdje al naar nieuwe speakers, de vorige waren echt op na 10 jaar. Dus werd het tijd voor een nieuwe set. Voor mij zijn gewicht, volume, geluid en prijs de bepalende factoren geweest. Ik heb oa stil gestaan bij JBL, QSC,presonus en Mackie. Uiteindelijk voor EV's gekozen omdat ze qua geluid, prijs, bouwkwaliteit, materiaal en gewicht de beste match waren voor mij. Ik ben er erg tevreden over tot nu toe. Je kunt tot 150 man hiermee prima je gigs doen. Ga je groter of hecht je veel waarde aan bass dan is een sub of 2 erbij een optie. Voor de gigs die ik doe is dat een nice to have, geen need to have. Maar dat is enorm persoonlijk. Je merkt met deze al dat je heel erg over hebt en vanwege de houten kast, met name in het laag merk je dat. Maar hey, niks zo subjectief als je eigen paar oren en het geluid, dus mijn tip: Bepaal je budget, wat past binnen je businessmodel, welke doeleinden heb je ze nodig (doe je elk weekend gigs van 250+ man? of moet je als band goed klinken?) hoe groot/hoe zwaar/ met over zonder subs. Op basis van dit soort indicatoren zou ik een shortlist maken van wat past in jouw situatie en die 3 tot 5 speakers online goed nazoeken/over inlezen en dan 2/3 echt gaan beluisteren voordat je zo'n smak geld gaat investeren. Kom je net als mij, bij deze unit's uit. Dan vermoed ik dat je geen spijt gaat krijgen.

Echt een leuke speaker.
Alhoewel ik hem persoonlijk wel erg prijzig vind, is de kwaliteit wel echt uitstekend maar dat mag je ook wel verwachten als je zoveel geld neergelegd voor een speaker natuurlijk! Verder is hij echt makkelijk te bedienen aan de achterkant van de speaker. Verder raad ik wel aan om echt hoezen te gebruiken want ze zwarte verf laag op de grill (voorkant) beschadigd toch best wel snel.
Verder kun je hem ook prima gebruiken zonder subwoofers of met 1, het is maar net wat je graag wilt. Ik zelf gebruik er 2 EKX-18SP subwoofers bij!
Al met al echt een goede speaker!

Als dj speelde ik al regelmatig in kleine café’s, maar nu ik ook af en toe grotere evenementen (huweleijken etc.) mag doen, leek het mij tijd voor een upgrade. Vandaar dat ik deze speakers eens mocht lenen van een vriend om te testen. Tot nu ben ik er heel tevreden van. Ze produceren een zeer helder geluid die ik nog niet heb gehad met speakers van andere merken. Enkel de lage tonen is niet de sterkste kant van dit type speaker. Maar een ongetraind publiek zal hier niets van merken, aangezien de mids en highs wel zeer scherp zijn. Dus als je op zoek bent naar speakers met een goed gebalanceerd geluid, dan kan ik deze wel aanraden. Ik zal er mij alleszinds al aanschaffen.

Ik heb jaren 12 inch Ev's meegenomen tijdens Shows maar nadat ik bij een vriend deze speakers gehoord had moest ik er wel 2 van bestellen. Het geluid is echt super en ze werken ook prima zonder subwoofer (dat bespaart me een hoop sleurwerk aan zware subwoofers). De zuiverheid van het geluid is ook echt fantastisch! Je kan ze open zetten tot aan de limiter en toch heeft dit geen invloed op de kwaliteit van het geluid! Jammer genoeg heeft deze speaker maar 2 handvatten (heb liever nog 1 vanboven op de speaker) en hij weegt ook wel best veel. Hem alleen op statieven zetten en van statieven afhalen is niet echt handig. Daarom geef ik hem ook maar 4 sterren!

Nu een paar keer gedraaid met deze set. Ik heb 2x EKX-15S en 2x EKX-18SP. De topjes geven een eerlijk recht geluid. Je hoeft bijna niet te EQ'en op je tafel. Misschien wel iets te veel in het mid, maar dat kun je snel aanpassen naar je eigen smaak in de Hoog-Mid-Low EQ van de speaker zelf.
De hoes is wel nodig hoor; de grill lijkt erg robuust, maar is in de praktijk toch wel kwetsbaar en dun.
Nog even over het vermogen;
Het continue vermogen (RMS) is nergens te vinden bij EV. Waarom is mij echt een raadsel want dat is toch een belangrijk meetpunt voor de aankoop. In de folder van EV staat bij de passieve EKX-15 versie (dus zonder ingebouwde versterker) dat de speaker 400W continue kan hebben. Het lijkt mij logisch dat het dezelfde woofer+driver betreft dan de powered versie.
Mijn inschatting na een paar keer op vol vermogen draaien tot in de LIMIT, is dat de 400W RMS realistisch is. Ik had er eerlijk gezegd meer van verwacht omdat ze zo trots de 1600W peak vermelden. Mijn 'oude set' draaide 450W RMS in de topjes, dus qua volume ben ik er niet echt veel op vooruit gegaan.
Ik heb er K&M tussenpalen bij genomen. Maar de top 'draait' tijdens gebruik. Lastig. Een stukje gaffertape eronder lost het op als nood. Ik ga nu trussklemmen eronder zetten om te kijken of het helpt.
Conclusie; De speaker klinkt echt goed en is zijn geld zeker meer dan waard! Aanrader!!

Dacht dat ik te weinig power zou hebben met 1 basskast.
Maar ik heb deze set nog nooit helemaal open moeten zetten op feesten.
Wat een power komt hier uit en de kwaliteit van het geluid is zeker ook aan te raden.
Heel gemakkelijk in te stellen via het menu achteraan op de boxen.
Kwaliteit van de omkasting is ook heel stevig. Als je het vaak vervoert (bvb. mobiele DJ's) raad ik zeker de beschermhoezen aan.
Het enige minpunt is de Power-aansluiting. Voor een topmerk als Electro Voice had dit een powercon mogen zijn ipv de standaard aansluiting.
