Rather than catering to the masses with value-for-money designs, Waldorf is one of those synth-builders that loves to open up new horizons, which is exactly what the original Quantum did upon release several years ago. Now the Quantum MK2 is here, and it's ready to take things even further.

Features of the Waldorf Quantum MK2

In short, it may well take a lifetime or three to discover every sound the Quantum MK2 is able to shape. Depending on whether you're using analogue or digital filters, you get a polyphony of eight or sixteen, where each voice is made up of three oscillators, and where each oscillator comes with the choice between five forms of synthesis, including granular synthesis, 6-op FM and wavetables. The number of options are near-infinite, and thanks to a new keyboard equipped with polyphonic aftertouch, you can easily take your level of expression beyond anything you've ever done before.

Let it be clear that the Waldorf Quantum MK2 is not exactly a traditional sample player for acoustic instruments. It sets you up with a massive 4GB flash memory and 59GB worth of room for storing samples. It's also not particularly difficult to operate, but do bear in mind that the synthesis methods - like granular synthesis - are quite extensive and take some time to learn. Thankfully, there's a large colour display and a host of controls to help you out. Start conducting sonic experiments and the results are bound to be extremely impressive.
