A solid addition to a complete LIVEN setup up, the Sonicware LIVEN XFM groovebox sticks one leg in the rich tradition of FM synthesis, making things more straightforward and easy to control. While the LIVEN Bass & Beats module lays the groundwork and the Lo-Fi 12 sets up dirty, custom samples via a sequencer, the XFM edition of the LIVEN has an FM synthesiser at its core but keeps things compact. So while you may not be getting the litany of sound-sculpting options you'd get with a full-sized FM synth-monster, you are getting a fully flexible synth-based tool.

What the XFM essentially does is distil the hundreds of parameters of traditional FM synthesis down into one easy-to-access package. You get multiple built-in FM sounds, and using the envelope and LFO, you can morph between them, pushing from extremes to extremes. A bank of effects, a filter and an extensive sequencer complete the layout with the idea that you can tweak your sounds with a single rotary knob, twisting it to blend the might of two different FM sounds and make something entirely fresh.
