The Novation Novation FLKEY-MINI USB/MIDI keyboard might be the travel-ready edition, but besides a reduced price tag and a set of mini keys, still comes loaded with sixteen colour-coded performance pads, a bank of eight encoders, a complete transport section, and some exclusive controls for walking through various FL Studio functions. Goed verpakt verstuurd en snel geleverd. Direct te gebruiken en makkelijk aan te sluiten (let op: geen USB-C). Eerst een update naar de laatste versie van FL Studio. Daarna de Components app installeren en een firmware update van de midi controller uitvoeren. FL Studio herkent de controller direct. De bijgeleverde/gebundelde software te installeren en een plug-in refresh uitvoeren en dan is alles klaar voor gebruik.

De FLKey Mini is een lichtgewicht controller die wat goedkoop aanvoelt. Toetsen zijn aan de kleine kant, maar werken goed. Aanslaggevoeligheid is even wennen. De drumpads werken perfect. Goede aanslag en directe respons. De Channel Rack keuzetoetsen zijn even groot als de drumpads, maar zijn niet net zo gevoelig. De controller knoppen voelen degelijk aan en werken precies. De Pitch en Modulatie strips vind ik niet fijn werken, maar gebruik ik ook niet zo vaak.

De FLKey Mini is een perfecte hardware oplossing om de meest gebruikte bediening in FL Studio aan te sturen. In de native plug-ins werken de controller knoppen goed, maar soms is het even zoeken welke knop welke bediening aanstuurt. Voor andere DAW's kun je de FLKey ook gebruiken, maar de mapping met FL Studio is goed uitgedacht en werkt erg intuitief. Je hebt meteen een snellere workflow en kunt de muisbediening heel vaak achterwege laten. Shift-klikken werkt na een tijdje heel gemakkelijk.
