Since this is Joe Walsh's take on a Duesenberg model, the Eagles guitarist has gone for a slim semi-acoustic design, not only because it gives this unique model its warm and airy hollow-bodied sound, but because it completes a lightweight and ultra-comfortable instrument. The addition of a spruce top, meanwhile, supports the natural resonance of the laminated flamed maple body and maple neck with plenty of richness, power, tightness and definition.

Walsh has taken this premium acoustic foundation and loaded it up with a hand-picked HS pickup configuration. The Duesenberg LittleToaster mini-humbucker at the bridge brings the clear and bell-like trebles, while the Duesenberg SingleTwin Mini noiseless single-coil at the neck brings some classic, tight and singing tone, wiped clean of any of the hum and noise associated with off-the-shelf single-coils. However, Joe has done far more than just put his own spin on the sound and construction.

Life in the Fast Lane

The inlay planted between the two pickups echoes Joe's own Tibetan knot tattoo and, even the position markers inlaid along the fretboard are in Morse code, spelling out Joe's full name. The hardware finish is also an artful combo of nickel and gold - the kind you usually only get with a modded guitar, and an advanced Radiator Tremola system has also been selected, guaranteeing smooth and reliable action - especially since the ultra-responsive tremolo arm can be adjusted and set up for a custom feel. The ultimate in playability is also assured by the full PLEK treatment, which has resulted in perfectly smooth frets and a sublime setup, right out of the box. While it definitely takes its cues from the classics, this big-hitter of a semi-hollow electric guitar does things its own way.
