Boss SY-1 Synthesizer Effect Pedal

By cramming the SY-1 into a classic stomp box housing, Boss offers synthesizer effects without the need for a separate MIDI controller. Simply plug in your guitar to try out each of the 121 synth-style sounds. A different effect can be selected by combining one of the 11 different synths with one of the 11 versions summoned by the Variation knob. A special DSP ensures latency-free operation and tight polyphonic tracking and, should you want to add another external effect pedal to the mix, you can easily do so using the built-in mono effects loop.

Naturally, all the classics such as leads, synth basses, pads and string sounds come included in the SY-1. However, this Boss pedal also gives you a number of bell-like sounds, organs and sequencer patterns to experiment with. The two, concentric potmeters on the left give you control over a decent number of parameters, including timbre and speed, and you can use the Depth setting to determine the vertical range of the sound. The left-most stacked knob lets you mix the SY-1 effect sound with your cleans and any synth sounds can be easily sustained by holding down the foot switch.. Hook up any external footswitch to gain extensive control over octave changes and pace.
