At Ludwig's US factory, they make beautiful stuff. Very nice stuff. But even for 'The Most Famous Name On Drums', making a Black Beauty snare drum is not an easy trick that goes effortlessly and quickly time after time. In fact, the whole process is quite complicated and involves a lot more than you might think. In the case of this LB417K Black Beauty, for example, the shell is made of a single sheet of brass with a thickness of 1.2 mm. The shell underwent a unique hammering process and was then anodised and nickel-plated.

The shell has a diameter of 14 inches and is 6.5 inches deep. The tuning range of this snare is quite wide and the shell has an awesome sound both high and low tuned. This makes the Black Beauty snare drums extremely versatile and therefore suitable for all kinds of music styles. Tuning is done with 10 Imperial lugs that ensure stable tuning. As standard, this snare drum is strung with a Ludwig Weather Master Medium Coated batter and a Weather Master Clear resonance drumhead. Finally, the shell is fitted with a Supra-Phonic P88AC string tensioner with P35P butt plate. The entire snare drum is made in Ludwig's US factory.
