Are you ready for something more than the cold, grey, basic interface currently on your desktop? The Harrison Flex-10 isn’t a ten-euro impulse buy, but it immediately looks as though you think it’s worth every penny: two chunky VU meters, a sturdy metal casing, and a look that’s more reminiscent of a 1970s mixing desk than a sterile USB box. Harrison has been building consoles for fifty years for the likes of Led Zeppelin, Queen and Michael Jackson, and you can really see (and hear) that history reflected in this piece of kit. In short: you’re not just bringing home an interface here; you’re bringing home a piece of recording studio history.

H-DRIVE: the secret weapon of the Harrison Flex-10

Hidden beneath the knobs are two proprietary Harrison microphone preamps, each featuring a switchable H-DRIVE circuit: a separate hardware transformer that you can insert into the signal if desired to add a touch of analogue saturation. You also get the classic high-pass and low-pass filters from the 32 Series console, so you can shape your signal before it reaches the computer, rather than having to fix it afterwards in software. Each channel also features a balanced insert point, allowing you to effortlessly incorporate an external compressor or EQ into the signal chain. So this isn’t just a simple conduit to your DAW; it’s a little bit of analogue character that you can switch on or off as you wish.

Growing with the Harrison Flex-10

If your studio outgrows its current setup, the Flex-10 simply grows with it: eight channels of ADAT I/O let you effortlessly connect additional microphone preamps, without having to buy a larger (and more expensive) interface straight away. This way, you can keep the two dedicated Harrison preamps for your main sources and expand as soon as a session requires it. Two separate headphone outputs and two independent monitor outputs also make it just as suitable for a second listener or a second set of speakers. Connecting it is also hassle-free: on a Mac, the Flex-10 works straight away without any drivers, and it comes with a full licence for Mixbus 12 and the Harrison Creator Pack plug-ins.
