Looking at an audio waveform is quite instructive in itself, but 't tells you not very much about what you are really listening to. Ideally, you want to identify an audio signal as an audio object, and that's what you do with Steinberg SpectraLayers Pro. With this package, you actually see a siren as a rising and falling line. Nice in itself, but the real creativity comes when you can select that very line. Because if that is possible, you could also edit that line; delete it, for example. Or, what about unmix? This phenomenon, which allows you to extract various separate instruments from audio to remix them, is something we see more and more often. In Spectralayers, too, that is! A kind of Photoshop for sound, not only for necessary edits such as polishing bad audio, but also just for fun, new sound possibilities. Removing the harmonics of a trumpet? If you want to... do it! For sound-designers and those in post-production, this is a wonderful package in any case.
