General

For your DAW you do need a keyboard, at least we assume you don't want to draw all those notes with your mouse. So, no matter how simple a MIDI keyboard is, you just have to have one. For not too much money, the iCON Pro Audio Artist is a good one. Very basic, to keep the price down, but complete with a DAW and a very nice set of sounds. In short, if you're just starting out and don't have anything yet, this is a complete start to your musical career.
