General
If there is one microphone that is synonymous with ‘impeccable vocal recording’, it is the original 251 from the late 1950s. The sound that has defined generations of records, from the classic recordings of the 1960s and 1970s right up to the present day. The original 251 can still be found in the studios of artists such as Bruce Springsteen, Beyoncé, Céline Dion and Tom Petty. The Space 251 is Icon’s tribute to that legacy, cast in a futuristic design. It is a versatile microphone with cardioid, omnidirectional and figure-8 polar patterns, making it suitable for a variety of situations. It also features a 12AY7 valve, combined with a Cinemag transformer, WIMA capacitors and Fairchild resistors. The sound? Air! Sparkle! A velvety mid-range, a warm low end, and very little noise. That’s what you want, isn’t it? The home musician or beginner will be more than satisfied with the classic, timeless vocal sound this mic delivers. But without the price tag of the original!
