General

Buying a pair of stereo monitors isn’t simply a matter of ‘two of the same unit’; it’s an investment in a single, consistent reference point for all your decisions. With the Neumann KH 310 II as a pair (left + right), you’re bringing home a monitor setup built precisely for that purpose. Neumann has been manufacturing active three-way monitors since 1967, a tradition that began when its predecessor, Klein & Hummel, introduced the world’s first such monitor. The KH 310 II continues this lineage, not as innovation for innovation’s sake, but as a fundamentally redesigned instrument for those who need to be able to rely on what they hear at the very highest level.

Why a pair is more than just two boxes
When buying two monitors separately, you always run the risk of slight variations between them; at Neumann, that risk has been deliberately minimised. The KH 310 II has been developed with improved unit-to-unit consistency, specifically to guarantee a razor-sharp, predictable stereo image. For multichannel and immersive set-ups (such as Dolby Atmos), that consistency is even more important, as any deviation between channels becomes immediately audible. So, when you invest at this level, you’re not just buying two speakers; you’re buying a guaranteed identical reference pair.

Precision you can’t hear – and that’s precisely the point
The best monitor is one that makes itself invisible between you and the music. The KH 310 II achieves a maximum sound pressure level 5 dB higher than its predecessor, without compromising on control during demanding mixing sessions. Linearity is within ±0.6 dB between 100 Hz and 10 kHz, so what you hear is actually what’s in your mix, not a coloured version of it. The sealed enclosure design delivers a tighter transient response and lower group delay than a ported design could ever achieve. And the legendary 3-inch soft-dome midrange driver? Neumann deliberately left that unchanged; some components are simply already perfect.

What’s changed under the bonnet
A fully 32-bit DSP signal path controls everything from system alignment to advanced signal processing, with MA 1 compatibility for automatic correction to your specific room. The new ELFF woofer technology keeps distortion extremely low, even at high excursion and high volume. The power handling has increased significantly: the woofer from 210 to 300 watts, the midrange from 90 to 160 watts, and the tweeter from 90 to 125 watts. It features both digital AES3id (BNC) and analogue inputs, so integration into an existing signal chain is hassle-free.

Ready to replace, ready to expand
The external dimensions are identical to those of the KH 310 A, so if you’re currently using that model, you can replace it without having to adjust your furniture, wall brackets or cabinet layout. The recommended listening distance is between 1 and 2.5 metres, with a usable range of up to 6 metres for larger rooms. And because the KH 310 II shares the same voicing and DSP platform within Neumann’s wider KH range, you can effortlessly expand this pair later into a larger, immersive multichannel system without any differences in sound between the old and new models. This pair is therefore both an end point and a starting point, whatever your future plans may be.
