Fred Forssell was responsible for the circuit design, and it shows: the AEA TDI is a phantom-powered active DI box that combines an ultra-low-noise JFET buffer with an exceptionally clean Lehle step-down transformer. The result is a direct signal with minimal distortion and noise. All this is maintained even over long cable runs, where signal loss would normally be an issue. A ground-lift switch eliminates any residual hum from ground loops, and a -20dB pad makes the TDI just as suitable for speaker-level signals and active instruments as it is for passive pickups. Designed for instrument-level signals, but equally at home with line-level sources such as drum machines, samplers and synths. Built in a steel chassis that can take a knock; tour-proof, backline-proof, studio-proof. No frills, no unnecessary features: just a DI that does its job – and does it very well!
