Whereas classic ribbon microphones often pick up a lot of ambient noise and room sound, the KU5A focuses almost entirely on the sound source. Reflections, instrument bleed and stage noise are effectively suppressed, giving you a clear and controlled recording – even in less than ideal acoustic conditions.

The KU5A retains the characteristic warmth and smooth mid-range of a ribbon microphone, whilst adding a surprisingly open high end. The result is a natural, full and detailed sound without harsh sibilance or piercing high frequencies. Thanks to its active electronics and high-quality JFET amplification, the KU5A delivers a powerful output signal with a low noise floor. This means the microphone performs excellently with virtually any microphone preamp or audio interface that supplies 48V phantom power. From vocals and guitar amps to string instruments, wind instruments and drums: the KU5A is at home with virtually any sound source. Its robust construction, integrated windscreen and clever front-address design also make it ideal for live use and quick set-up in the studio. For close-miking, the KU5A features a switchable high-pass filter that reduces the proximity effect in a controlled manner. This ensures you maintain a balanced sound, even when the microphone is positioned close to the source.
